<p>When brand owners and marketers create and redesign websites, pictures play a critical role in the process. Photographs are a central component of&nbsp;<a href="https://helloexanimo.com/what-we-do/strategy/">brand strategy.</a> One question that a lot of marketers have about pictures is:&nbsp;<strong>Should I use stock or custom photography for my content?</strong></p>



<p>There are upsides to both custom and stock photos&#8211; and there are drawbacks, too. Nobody can tell you with certainty which type of content is best for your brand; but there are some common pieces of advice that can help brands determine which variety of photos might be most effective.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Custom photography&nbsp;</strong>is the result of hired photographers; it&#8217;s&nbsp;unique, individualised content&nbsp;designed to help highlight a brand&#8217;s offerings&nbsp;and personalise their&nbsp;messaging</li>



<li><strong>Stock photos&nbsp;</strong>are generic pictures of people, places, and things; they are licensed for commercial use; anybody who wants to use them can do so</li>
</ul>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Pros and Cons of Custom Photography and Stock Photos</h2>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The Upsides</h3>



<p><strong>Custom photography is original</strong>&#8212; and if you know anything about marketing and creating consumer interest, you know that individuality is key.</p>



<p>Smart brands use their marketing campaigns to further their overall&nbsp;<a href="https://helloexanimo.com/what-we-do/brandstrategy/">brand strategy</a>&#8212; photos help share their brand stories and communicate their values.&nbsp;<strong>It&#8217;s much easier to do this through custom content (photographs included)&nbsp;</strong>than with stock content.</p>



<p>If you need your photos to be&nbsp;<strong>versatile, consistent, and one-of-a-kind,&nbsp;</strong>custom photography presents the perfect opportunity to make it happen. You can work in tandem with skilled photo experts to create exactly what you need.</p>



<p><strong>Stock photos&nbsp;are usually a more affordable alternative to custom photography</strong>. It can be pricey to rely on an expert&#8217;s skills to create custom content for you. You&#8217;re obviously likely to find something a little cheaper in a stock collection&#8211; but that doesn&#8217;t mean that you should give up hope on custom photos!&nbsp;</p>



<p>You can use stock photos as support to your brand&#8217;s wide range of photography. If you notice your budget starting to dwindle, it&#8217;s not a bad idea to look into some stock photography to help liven up your content.&nbsp;<strong>They&#8217;re as easily accessible as they are affordable</strong>, so you should never have trouble finding one.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The Downsides</h3>



<p><strong>Stock photos&nbsp;</strong>do present some risk of dissatisfied or uninterested audiences. That&#8217;s because they tend to be simple and far-reaching. Those are great traits when you need a little filler content to boost your marketing aesthetic;&nbsp;<strong>they&#8217;re drawbacks if you rely too heavily on stock photos</strong>.</p>



<p>Competing brands can use the same images whilst use stock photos. Plus brand can tend to come off as disingenuous. It&#8217;s tough to communicate with a unique audience or share a brand message through canned content.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Sometimes, stock photo use can even prompt people to see a brand in a more negative light. These photographs are&nbsp;<em>great&nbsp;</em>when they&#8217;re used sparingly, but a site that&#8217;s stock photo-heavy likely won&#8217;t go over well with audiences.</p>



<p><strong>Custom photography&nbsp;</strong>does present some downsides, too. Staging, styling and other elements need to be well thought through. They can also present creative challenges&#8211; an uninspired marketing team may have difficulty determining the custom photography that would benefit their brand. If you add an uninspired photographer into the mix, the situation dissolves further.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Future of business post Covid-19</h2>



<p>Like most entrepreneurs, I’m a paranoid optimist, so I like to think things will get back ‘normal’, albeit normal is likely to be a different to what we’re used to.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Working from Home</strong></h2>



<p>The notion of working from home becoming standard for everyone doesn’t make a huge amount of sense. For some people, working from home is ideal – if you’ve got a role which doesn’t need significant collaboration and you’ve got a very significant travel time, the ability to work from home for 2-3 days a week is a massive benefit to efficiency (and general happiness levels).</p>



<p>My personal view is no one should from home all the time. Spending a couple of days a week with colleagues in the office (if possible) is a great middle ground, even for people with jobs that don’t require lots of close contact. The exception to that is parents with small kids, in that case, the efficiency gained can be outweighed by the time needed to care and educate the children.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How do you run your business?</h2>



<p>Every business is different but the most critical aspect to dealing with COVID19 is cashflow and making sure you have enough runway. Even the biggest businesses need to be preparing for the worst (but hoping for the best).</p>



<p>Several start-ups I work with have raised capital at much lower valuations than they would have done a few months ago, but ultimately, survival is far more important than hyper growth at the moment.</p>



<p>That said, it’s also important not to spend every waking hour worrying about survival – build your runway and then start focusing on accelerating out of the turn. Now is the perfect time to be building great products and getting your customer focus laser sharp for when demand eventually returns.</p>

Adam was named Young Executive of the Year in the CEO Magazine Executive awards 2015 and was nominated for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year in 2014.&nbsp;</em>&nbsp;</p>

<p><em><strong>Lawyer:</strong>&nbsp;Adam was originally a corporate lawyer specialising in mergers &amp; acquisitions at HerbertSmithFreehills before founding Luxury Escapes with school friend, Jeremy Same.</em></p>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">This Great Realisation by Tomos Roberts really caught our attention.</h1>



<p>Tomos Roberts &#8211; aka Tom Foolery offers an insight into &#8220;after the coronavirus pandemic&#8221; A New Zealand-born poet&#8217;s bedtime fairytale video,&nbsp;<em>The Great Realisation</em></p>



<p>The video, titled &#8220;The Great Realisation,&#8221;&nbsp;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bea4jCAkXsI" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">was uploaded to YouTube</a>&nbsp;by British artist and poet &#8220;Probably Tomfoolery&#8221; on April 29. It depicts a father reading his child a bedtime story, however, this tall tale is not quite Goldilocks and the Three Bears.</p>

<p>The father opens up the book and describes to his child the world before coronavirus, including severe economic inequality and irrepressible damage to the world&#8217;s oceans.</p>



<p>&#8220;Well sometimes, you&#8217;ve got to get sick my boy, before you start feeling better.&#8221;</p>



<p>&#8220;It was a world of waste and wonder. Of poverty and plenty. Back before we understood why hindsight is 2020,&#8221; says the father to his child.</p>



<p>&#8220;We&#8217;d grown so used to bad news but some good news was in the making,&#8221; the father adds.</p>



<p>However, just as the story grows grim, the father pivots to talk about a virus, and its impact onto society. He notes that we now have reverted back to a better understanding of what brings us joy, and how we can not only heal ourselves, but also heal the world around us.</p>



<p>This has viewers all thinking about the future and impact they have on the world and is making the rounds on YouTube and social media.</p>



<p>The video garnered over 600,000 views on YouTube as of Saturday morning. On Facebook, the video has been viewed by 8.1 million people, and has been shared almost 300,000 times.</p>

<p>We live in a world where it is easier than ever to achieve extraordinary productivity. Why is it then that we all feel so overwhelmed?</p>



<p>Kory Kogan, the Global Practice Leader for Organizational Development at<br>FranklinCovey, combined her “School of Hard Knocks” education growing up in New York City with more than 25 years of experience in business to help understand productivity and navigate an increasingly complex world.</p>

<p>This begins with developing organizational processes that create a culture of productivity by separating what is important versus what is unimportant. On average, employees state they are paying attention to important things 60 percent of the time. This means they feel like they are wasting almost half of their time. </p>

We are trying to manage<br>linearly and letting high value/important decisions fall through the cracks.<br>• Our attention is under attack from, you guessed it, our phones.<br>We have an energy crisis and are consistently worn out.<br>• Kory advocates for establishing the use of a Time Matrix to turn planning<br>and technology into a productivity engine. Organizations should divide tasks into four primary quadrants, create a culture of trust around discussing what is important, and promote Q2 activities:</p>

<p>Place Agency is a collaborative group of academics from universities and Industry leading Placemakers across Australia who joined together to deliver an education program focused on the theory and practice of placemaking through partnerships with practitioners delivered through Studio projects. </p>



<p>The Placemaking Consortium includes seven universities and 16 practitioners with support from 26 placemaking partners. <p>Over the past few years Digital White Space has worked with The University of Melbourne to develop the Brand and digital platform for Place Agency. In 2017 Digital White Space won the tender against a suite of other businesses, due to their approach backed by a team of strategic digital marketing and creative expertise. </p>

<p>The Digital White Space addressed the opportunities by delivering a bold and differentiated brand positioning and building an intuitive platform that engaged with the key stakeholders from Students, to community members, local government and Industry practitioners. This was all tailored to support the administration process of the Place Agency Brand across the 7 Universities and their practical studio learning projects. The platform was integrated with social media and seamlessly supported the very small administration team.</p>

<p>Place Agency is a successful offline and online project, that has been responsible for delivering 12 stand box studios- that have allowed students to gain and practice their placemaking skills with the support of practitioners. With now two books being published, the strong educational modules and sandbox studio methodology incorporates a process of continuous analysis and improvement.</p>

<p>Digital White Space mirrored the approach to continuous improvement through ongoing engagement and supporting of the Place Agency team, workshopping new opportunities, cataloging the successes of the studios and consumer behaviour and reporting all Analytics and reviewing brand growth. Creating monthly reporting and tracking user behaviour Digital White Space was able to respond accordingly by including more relevant content, restructuring content, menu’s, created new sections and pages. The following results recorded between 1 Jan 2018 and 30 July 2019 include; </p>

<p>Why is your brand position so important?<br>Over the years, we&#8217;ve helped many companies with repositioning their brand in the market and at times where appropriate re-branded companies. You want your target audience to understand why they should buy from your company. The brand selling propositions implanted in consumers/target market must be strong enough to help your brand increase its market share over time. The alternatives to growth are reaching a sales plateau or, worse, a decline in brand equity and sales.<br>If you don&#8217;t have a strong position, brand association, robust marketing strategy and or understand your customers, then you don&#8217;t have a secure business and or customer base.
